There is a dimension of caring that is open to a person of faith not enjoyed by the other helping professoins. Faith leaves the counsellor free and engaged in ministry when it seems as though he or she is doing nothing. This is caring ministry. In this text, Sarah Butler outlines what caring ministry is about. She explains the role of the caregiver and offers tips on how to listen attentively and thoughfully. She provides guidance on how to focus on feelings in the interaction between caregiver and the one receiving care. She talks about "compatability checking", where the caring minister cas assist the care receiver in testing his or her perception of an experience with an actual experience.
