Description

If New York City is a state of mind, then Jorge Colombo captures the metropolis' thoughts like no other. Colombo's beautiful illustrations of New York City have graced the cover of "The New Yorker" three times, brilliantly depicting silhouetted roof top water towers, an illuminated Chrysler Building at night, and the ubiquitous hot dog stand. Amazingly, all of the images were created on an iPhone using the software program Brushes. This sophisticated volume presents one hundred of his best pieces in full colour. Every scene is unmistakably New York: familiar, grand, timeless, and laced with modern, cutting-edge technology. Immediately recognizable to native New Yorkers, but also perfect for anyone who admires the Big Apple, this is a monograph of an artist and a city.

Author Biography

Jorge is a Portuguese-born illustrator, designer, and photographer. His view of the city, and his art, are influenced by Woody Allen, Edward Hopper, Todd Hido, and Arthur Getz, among others. His lushly rendered scenes are painted from life, on location, using an iPhone, with the idea of bringing traditional outdoor easel painting into the 21st century. His images have appeared on the cover of the New Yorker and he has a blog devoted solely to his work on newyorker.com. Steve Jobs displayed his images during the unveiling of the iPad. His work has appeared in the UK in the Guardian and The Times and online at 7X7 and drawger.com. He has been a guest on The Today Show, NBC News, and Fox News. Jen Bekman is an art-dealer, curator, writer, and entrepreneur. Her projects include her eponymous Manhattan gallery, the curated limited-edition fine-art print website 20X200, and the international photography competition Hey Hotshot!, and have been featured in the New York Times. Christoph Niemann is an illustrator, graphic designer, and author of several books, including I LEGO N.Y. He writes and illustrates the New York Times blog Abstract City.
