Reviews"Accent on ""Tampa""""Bay"" Magazine, "Summer 2007 "Profusely illustrated with dramatic paintings, evocative photographs and informative maps, this book conveys the fascinating history of the U.S. Navy. It tells of the officers and men who fought the battles and created strategies, tracing the progress and expansion of technology and tactics from the early colonial days through the furious combat of World War II at sea against Japan to shielding the nation from the threats of the Cold War and today facing the challenges of the twenty-first century." "California"" Bookwatch, " July 2007 "In 1775, a new congress formed what would evolve into one of the world's greatest military organizations: the U.S. Navy. NAVY" celebrates this, using paintings, photos, and maps to trace the evolution of the Navy during the wars it fought. Both black and white and color illustrations, from photos to artistic representations, make NAVY" an excellent survey -and it comes from a military historian who has already written several Navy history books. It's an excellent choice for any military library and for any general-interest collection seeking an accessible, lively format documenting Navy strengths and evolution." Military Heritage, " December 2007 "For those readers looking for books dealing with the sea, then NAVY" is made to order ... Crammed with color and black-and-white photographs and detailed maps, Hearn's book fully details the daring exploits of John Paul Jones and other leaders who fought Great Britain's mighty flotilla. Hearn continues the story up to the Iraq War and gives a glimpse into the Navy of the 21st century, where new technology is the guiding factor in determining America's fleet and its newfound mission to combat terrorism around the world." Warships International Fleet Review "(UK), " November 2007 "Packed with information ... a good read, lavishly illustrated with evocative paintings, photographs, and maps ... It makes a useful aid to anyone wishing to acquire a sound knowledge of the essential history of the USN in an easily digestible form."
