Description
Even before Von Dutch and Ed Roth, the ultimate way to personalize your car was to lay wicked lines on top of the paintwork. Pinstripe speaks volumes about both driver and car when done correctly with two necessities: a steady hand and an eye for design. In this book, veteran pinstripe Alan Johnson teaches you everything you need to know to get started, to increase mastery of this art form, or simply to understand how a good design comes about. With a primer on the history and evolution of pin striping, this book launches into a step-by-step guide to the pin striping process - choosing paints, brushes, finding your unique style and technique, preparing surfaces, experimenting with designs both symmetrical and asymmetrical, freehand striping, using grids and patterns. The basics of color theory are expounded, and consideration is given to antique and classic cars, hot rods, motorcycles, and custom cars. For the more advanced pinstripe, there is a tried-and-true advice on apprenticing and working car shows. Illustrated with vivid color photography throughout, "How to Pinstripe" is the perfect source for beginners and veterans alike.
