Description
Discover how geology is part of our daily lives with Everyday STEM Science - Geology. Explore the wonders of Earth and see how geology is all around us, from natures materials that are used to build roads and buildings to the minerals found in your mobile phone and drinks can. Witness a volcanic eruption, find out if there is water on Mars, unearth a dinosaur and meet the geologists and scientists who brought geology to life. Readers can also carry out geology experiments at home. With easy-to-understand text written by Emily Dodd, fun callouts and lots of colourful artworks, photos, and diagrams, readers can best explore where we encounter geology and why it's even important at all. The Everyday STEM series makes STEM relevant to tweens. Instead of telling kids STEM is important and is the key to their "future success," these books, including Everyday STEM Science - Physics, show readers how we use science, technology, engineering and maths in our everyday lives. While the topics sound high-level and complex, this series makes these concepts age-appropriate and accessible. So, while we can't promise to teach 9 to 11-year-olds quantum physics, we can explain in the simplest terms the practical applications of STEM.
Author Biography
Emily Dodd loves science and wildlife. She is the author of picture books and non-fiction science books, a screenwriter for CBeebies and a writer of BBC radio plays for children. Emily was the 2012/2013 Scottish Book Trust Reader in Residence at Leith Library. She once performed a poem about puffins to the Queen. Robbie Cathro is an Illustrator & Storyteller living in Bristol, UK, where he creates fun and lively work from his desk in The Island Studios.
