In the early twentieth century sidecar design was developed to provide greater comfort than the pillion seat of a motorcycle. Sidecars were used for all sorts of purposes from taxis to carriers of farm animals and though their use has declined they have retained a following in sporting events.
Author Biography
Jo Axon was educated at Murray's Private School in East Sussex. She has been motorcycling since 1956 and sidecarrying since 1981. She is a member of the Federation of Sidecar Clubs, which involves touring to many events held all over the British Isles and on the continent. Her self-published book Our Sidecars appeared in 1988. She has contributed reports for the classic motorcycle paper Old Bike Mart.
