Description
Aimed at children whose reading ability is beginning to grow, building confidence and ability. "The Railway Children" is a re-telling of the beloved E. Nesbitt story following the story of three children growing up after their father is wrongly accused of spying. It is evocatively illustrated by Alan Marks. It is developed in consultation with Alison Kelly, who is a senior lecturer in education and an early reading specialist from Roehampton University.
Author Biography
E. Nesbit (1858-1924) wrote some of the best-loved children's books of the turn of the century, including Five Children and It (1901), and The Phoenix and the Carpet (1904). Her stories in which ordinary children encounter magical adventures in the everyday world gave new life to the the field of children's fantasy.
ReviewsMary Sebag-Montefiore has done a beautiful job, and opens up this lovely story for younger readers or those who aren't very confident. The lively clear reading (on the CD)adds to the pleasure. * Publishing News *
