Little-known facts and much-talked-about triumphs come together in this celebratory publication - from the early challenges around its establishment to its current position as one of the top 50 universities in the world with 50 sites across Queensland and over 40,000 students. Nobel laureate Peter Doherty, Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush, Governor General Quentin Bryce and novelist David Malouf are among its alumni. Former Australian of the Year Ian Frazer (who discovered the cervical cancer vaccine) heads one of seven research institutes at the university - a long journey from a century ago when one research laboratory had no sink, so students used buckets for their experiments.
