Description
Story of a Life is fascinating collection of tales, confidences, observations, and comments of great historical, anthropological, and political interest made by author Carlos Pereira de Lemos OAM. In his memoir, translated from its original Portuguese to English, Carlos recounts his life's journey with a breathtaking succession of facts, adventures and encounters with people of diverse socio-cultural backgrounds, which spans across time and continents. Story of a Life takes the reader on a journey from remote areas in Alto Minho - where an underprivileged little boy would seem to be condemned to grow up and work in insurmountable isolation - to immense open spaces of African plains, horizons which Carlos opened for himself with his non-conformism, an insatiable desire for knowledge and an indefatigable ambition to succeed. Written in a simple, clear, colloquial language,Story of a Life recalls a distinctive and meteoric life-story which is sure to engage the reader from the first page to the last. Fascinating reading - history of a life, history of the country and other countries. I did not imagine a life so spread over the world. Fabulous memory of facts and people. And how well written it is! I am delighted. An admirable autobiography about a life also admirable. - Manuela Aguiar, Former Secretary of State, Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs I enjoyed very much to read the Chapter on Timor. Beautiful! Easy reading, admirable. - Jose Ramos Horta, Nobel Prize, Former President and Prime Minster of Timor Leste
