Author Biography

Author and Illustrator, Kat Merewethers illustrated titles include 'One Day a Taniwha', 'Fearless Fred and the Dragon', 'Ihenga' (shortlisted for the LIANZA Te Kura Pounamu Award) and 'Hinemoa and Tutanekai' (finalist in the Maori Language Awards), plus many more. Translator, Pania Papa worked for 10 years as a lecturer of te reo Maori at the University of Waikato. She is currently Director of Takatu Associates Ltd. Pania is fluent in Maori and English, with a passion for language, learning and teaching. The University of Waikato acknowledged her teaching expertise in 2001, when Pania received the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.In 2004, Pania was involved in the establishment of the first Institute of Excellence in the Maori Language - Te Panekiretanga o te Reo. Pania has more recently taken on a role as Kaiako at regional Kura Reo and Assistant Director of the Institute of Excellence in the Maori Language. Pania also works as a presenter on the Maori Television learning series 'Ako' and also as a te reo Maori translator for Maori Television.
