Autogenous shrinkage of concrete is caused by cement hydration. It has a significant influence on the performance of concrete structures, particularly those made of high performance concrete. Mastering this is a problem not only for crack control but also for good structural design. These proceedings of a workshop held in Hiroshima in June 1998 derive from the work of a Technical Committee of the Japan Concrete Institute. Topics include test and prediction methods, the science of autogenous shrinkage, strain and stress, and consequent design concerns.
Reviews
"This volume offers an interesting and in-depth view of the research conducted over the past ten years by agencies and institutes across a variety of countries, and results in a fuller and deeper understanding of the particular phenomenon of autogenous shrinkage caused by cementhydration..."
