Author Biography
Peter Whelan was born in the Potteries in 1931. His plays include Captain Swing (RSC The Other Place , Stratford, 1978), The Accrington Pals (RSC Pit, London, 1981), Clay (RSC Pit, London, 1983), The B right and Bold Design (RSC Pit, London, 1991), The School of Night (RSC The Other Place, Stratford, 1992), Shakespeare Country (Little Theatre Guild, 1993), The Tinderbox (New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lym e, 1994), Divine Right (Birmingham Rep, 1996), The Herbal Bed (RSC The Other Place, Stratford, 1996, West End and New York. Best Play: Lloyds Private Banking Award. Olivier Award nomination.), Overtur e (New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme, 1997), Nativity (with Bill Alexander, Birmingham Rep, 1999) and A Russian in the Woods (RSC 2001). Television includes The Trial of Lord Lucan and In Suspicious Circu mstances. He is an Honorary Associate of the RSC, is married with two sons and a daughter, and lives in London.
