Description
The NZ Herald called this impressive book 'One of the best short story collections written by a New Zealander in years.' This powerful short story collection by Paula Morris roams the globe and ranges widely in subject matter. From Sunset Boulevard to the beaches of Auckland, from the Bund in Shanghai to the banks of the Danube, from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Hammersmith Flyover, from post-Katrina New Orleans to Fire Island . . . the stories of Forbidden Cities explore places of escape, transgression, ambition, delusions, and desire.
Author Biography
Paula Morris (Ngati Wai) was born in Auckland. She is the author of three Penguin novels: Queen of Beauty, Hibiscus Coast, and Trendy But Casual. She lives in New Orleans. Paula is also editing the upcoming Penguin Book of Contemporary New Zealand Short Stories.
Reviews'Paula Morris is that rare thing among literary novelists - someone who can write with depth and subtlety and also tune up a plot ... Morris has a nose for our times. Like Dickens, she can tell a great story but also "catch" the world we live in, with all its complications and ambiguities.' Lydia Wevers, New Zealand Listener
