Philip Horne draws on a wide range of archival holdings to produce a fresh and up-to-date selection of James's correspondence, a third of which is previously unpublished. Horne attempts to present James's literary career through his letters and to illuminate - through the use of unpublished material - James's complex relations to feminism and women's writing. Horne presents edited texts and provides explanatory and textual annotation for each letter.
